Back up and running!

First of all, I want to thank all of my family and friends who physically, mentally and emotionally supported me over the last year and a half as I battled cancer.  I consider myself very lucky to have such an amazing supportive group of people to help me through the challenges and limitations.

Secondly, one of the things that got me through the last year was focusing on getting back out to photograph the great outdoors and getting into nature.  Nature has such a therapeutic effect, and whether you call it forest bathing, meditation or just walking in the woods, the medicinal effects of just breathing fresh air, hearing the rustling of the leaves, seeing the dappled light shine through the canopy and feeling the soft pine duff under your feet as you walk is real.  I was lucky enough to travel to Acadia National Park this summer with my wife and I never felt so relaxed and at peace than I did during that week.  Add to that the ability to get my equipment out again and capture some amazing moments while we were there just added to my spirit.

Finally, I have been able to update my website and bring it back up to date with improved images and user interface.  If you have a chance to visit my site, I would appreciate your comments and feedback on how I can improve visitor experiences.  I also plan to offer weekly blogs on topics from landscapes, nature, photography and post processing.  Starting off, I will focus on doing this on weekends, but I may boost the frequency to twice a week if I have the time and topics to cover, probably on Wednesday's.

Again, thank you all for your love and support.  I'm excited about what lies ahead and can't wait to share my photography and experiences with you all!

Ever since I can remember, from growing up as a small child in mid-state Maine, to walking around in the fields and woods of upstate New York, I have loved being outdoors.  With the Adirondack Mountain Park practically in my backyard, I love being able to take the canoe up to one of its many lakes and enjoy the beauty, serenity and peace of the mountains.  About 20 years ago, my grandmother handed me my first SLR camera, an old Minolta that was used for shooting weddings, and I was hooked!

Now I had the ability to photograph nature and landscapes, allowing me to share the imagery and feeling of being in remote and beautiful places.  Technology has come a long way since then, and I no longer shoot film, but the digital technology has helped to fuel my passion even more!  I primarily photograph in the Adirondacks, although I also love photographing in New England and traveling to many of the National Parks in the United States.

My goal is to capture the light, the essence of being in nature and to share that with the world.

I am currently working on a project to shoot all of the seasons in the Adirondacks and to create a calendar for next year.  I hope to see you out there!
